Technology
Set ways of thinking can often result in lost opportunities and expensive mistakes being made when developing or specifying technologies.
Regulations and best practice: Many firms, and some statutory and advisory bodies, presently adhere to (or promote) inadequate guidelines whilst holding out against more stringent ones. They can also fail to investigate potential ‘inconvenient truths’, or fail to take on board findings from relevant scientific disciplines. Such mindsets hamper the optimised development and application of technologies. Thinking differently can create numerous benefits. Sustainability is now a major driver of technological innovation. Companies that actively seek to develop more biologically sustainable technologies can obtain significant first-mover advantages, particularly in terms of cutting edge innovation and market share. Contrary to conventional thinking, technologies conforming to more stringent guidelines and best practices can return greater financial gains than their rivals. This is because they are a reduced risk, can comply with a wider range of market conditions (thereby optimising supply chain logistics and production) and can more readily lead the way forward for next generation developments. Designing in resilience is also prudent. Making a difference: We undertake detailed interdisciplinary research. Assessing alternative viewpoints and possible points of contention, finding new opportunities and seeking to 'design-out' problems (ideally) before they arise (and improving what works well) can significantly reduce risk, enhance innovation and lead to 'Win/Win' situations for all parties. Innovation and planning ahead: Biosustainable Designs can provide fresh and innovative thinking on technological projects, taking into account factors (including the findings of little known scientific research) often missed in standard appraisals. Amongst the services we now provide is ‘backcasting’, where the current situation is looked at from the vision of future success (what is needed) so the steps to achieve such reality is marked out. Backcasting is different from prediction, as it can be use to design and refine true market needs. Road maps too can be developed in conjunction with this for determining the steps required to improve biosustainability, convenience and consumer benefit. Disruptive innovation/technology, such as we can help advise on, creates new markets and value networks. It is required to create truly sustainable technologies and successful end outcomes. |
Businesses have a moral and ethical responsibility to seek to do no harm and create sustainable benefits for their shareholders. SWOT analysis is undertaken in our technology and design strategy assessments to further strengthen and add extra value to your projects. |
